September 2023
Meeting Wednesday September 13th 7 PM at The Clubhouse
Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
This is the last scheduled monthly meeting for the year! It is also the last meeting before the rescheduled duck race. The duck race will be next Saturday the 23rd. There is still time to secure your chance at $1000!
Quick recap on the hunter safety courses: We had a great turnout of students and volunteers alike. The weather cooperated for the most part with only a little bit of rain on Sunday's archery course.
This is the time of year where the range is getting a lot more use. If you see something going on that doesn't agree with the rules of the range please do not hesitate to say something. If all of the binder clips have been broken or gone missing please reach out and tell me or another officer or director and we will get up there with more. Please do not tack targets to the wood supports of the target backers, and this shouldn't need to be said but please do not shoot the signs.
With September here now there are a few great seasons and reasons to get out in the woods. September 1st was the start of the early bear season, resident Canada goose season and gray squirrel. A little later on in the month starts ruffed grouse and rabbit followed closely by archery on October 1st. Double check in the law digest for this year or online for a current list of new laws starting this year. Please feel free to send in pictures of your successful hunts! Good luck to everyone in all their adventures.
The painting in the main room of the clubhouse has been completed and lights have been installed. Barre Tile has brought up the flooring and is waiting on a group of their installers to get some free time to get the floor installed.

Duck Race -- 9/23/23
August 2023
Meeting Wednesday August 9th 7 PM at The Clubhouse
Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
This month we will be setting a date for the duck race that was postponed due to the flooding, setting up and preparing for the hunter safety courses and marveling in the improvements of the building! If you are planning on attending the meeting and are able to come a little early to help with setup that would be greatly appreciated.
The duck race will be happening sometime in the month of September (date will be set at Wednesday's meeting). If anyone wants any duck race tickets please reach out!
This coming weekend the range will not be available during the day on Saturday or Sunday because of the hunter safety courses. Courses usually end around 5 so the range will be available after that. We always need volunteers to help out with the hunter safety courses, please reach out if you would like to help out.
One thing that has been noticed recently is that people are still attaching targets to the top post of the target frames and shooting through the boards. Binder clips are provided to attach targets to the snow fence to help prolong the life of the boards. The clips are in a bucket on the side of the pistol berm housing. If anyone sees anything wrong please let an officer or director know so it can be remedied as soon as possible.
Thank you to Mark McCarthy, Bennet McFaun and Ralph Gerrish for helping to get the clubhouse painted last week. The main room and the hallway have been completed in time for the hunter safety courses. Progress is continuing on the building and it is amazing to see!

July 2023
Meeting Wednesday July 19th 7 PM at The Clubhouse
Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
Note the date change for the meeting this month. The meeting is being pushed back a week to let all members clean up after this storm and to allow the road crews to get the roads repaired and cleaned up.
If anyone is in need of help please reach out to me and I will get word out to everyone and see if there is anything that we can do to help. If there is one thing that I have learned about this club and the membership is that it is more like a family than anything else.
Last month we had our annual fishing derby and it was an amazing morning! Lots of fish caught and a lot of happy kids fishing. The morning started off a little wet but the sun came out shortly after that and made for a great time had by all. Several very nice fish brought home and likely turned into dinner that night.
The duck race is going to be discussed at next weeks meeting. The Stevens Branch was understandably very high from all the recent rains and will need some time to calm down before any of us can get into it to release/catch the ducks as well as clean it up as we do every year before the race. Tickets are still available from many of the officers and directors. Tickets are $5/ea or 5/$20 with a grand prize of $1000 to the first duck to cross the line.
Hunter safety courses are August 12th and 13th this year (12th for firearms and 13th for archery). The Fish and Wildlife Hunter Safety Department has already sent an email out to all instructors with a picture of the storage facility where all of the materials are stored for the courses, and not surprisingly it is underwater. They have not been able to access the building to determine the level of damage yet, but lets all hope for minimal damage so the courses can continue without any issues.

Meeting Wednesday June 14th 7 PM at The Clubhouse
Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
This months meeting will be held at the clubhouse. We will be talking about the fishing derby that is happening tomorrow June 10th as well as all of the upcoming events for the club.
The club voted to purchase a used zero turn mower from Barre Fish and Game Club at last months meeting. The mower has been delivered and used already. There is still a need for people to help out with the grounds maintenance. If you have time on Mondays to help out please reach out and we will make sure that you are trained on the safe and proper operation of it.
The duck race is the next and last fundraiser for the club of the year. We have not pinned down a date for this fundraiser yet. Tickets are available from Mark McCarthy.
For those interested in the hunter safety courses they have been listed on the Vermont Fish and Wildlife page and sign ups are open currently. Quick reminder that when the courses are going on the range is shut down. Those dates are August 12th and 13th.
One other date where the range and clubhouse will be closed is June 17th. The clubhouse is being used for a private event. Any questions please feel free to reach out.
Hope to see everyone at the meeting this coming Wednesday!

Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
This months meeting will be held at the clubhouse!!! Sadly it is unlikely that I will be able to attend as I am going in for shoulder surgery this Friday and am not expecting (but hoping) that I will be in a position to sit through a meeting. If you are able to show up a little early there is always some work that can be done to help clean up the club grounds.
We will recap in detail how the Spring Gun Raffle as well as the Big Game Raffle/Dinner went. Both were very successful with happy winners of both! Thank you to the Elks Lodge in Barre for putting on a great meal for us! Also thank you to the club members that volunteered their time to help out and sell gun raffle tickets.
One thing that the club is in desperate need of is help with the grounds. We need people to be willing to help out on Monday's to help with ground maintenance. The club owns a riding mower and will provide the gas, all we need from you is a little bit of your time. There have been a select few of us that have been doing our best to keep up with it over the past few years and we need some help with it. I will be unable to lean and steer the mower for a little while at least until my shoulder is in better condition than it currently is. If you are someone that has time on Mondays (because the range is already closed), even if it is only on one Monday, please reach out to me, or go to the meeting on Wednesday.
The next big event for the club is the Fishing Derby being held on June 10th. This event is awesome for the kids as well as those of us that volunteer and see the joy as the kids catch fish!
With the gun raffle and Big Game Dinner behind us it is now time to focus on selling tickets for the duck race! It has been a goal for years now to get to 1000 ducks floating down the brook and we haven't quite hit that goal yet. With the membership base we have now as well as friends and family members of all of those members this shouldn't be a problem!

Meeting Wednesday April 12th 7 PM The American Legion in Barre
Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
This months meeting will be held on Wednesday April 12th at 7 PM at the American Legion in Barre. As spring is finally arriving and the remains of winter fade out this will be the last meeting of this year held at the American Legion. All meetings from here on out this year will be held at the new and improved clubhouse.
Big Game Raffle -- If you had a ticket last year and you have not been contacted yet about your ticket for this year please call me. Also if you have an item that you would like to donate to the calcutta for the raffle reach out to myself or any of the other officers or directors and one of us will happily meet up with you to collect it from you.
Spring Gun Raffle -- There is still time to get tickets for this raffle. As mentioned in a previous email and in the mailed newsletter with the ticket in it this years gun is a Christensen Arms Ridgeline chambered in 7mm-08. Tickets for this raffle are going for $20/ea. or 3/$50. Once again reach out to any officer or director if you would like tickets for this gun, or if you would like to try to sell some!
We will also be discussing all of the other upcoming events for the club this year. In June we have our annual Joey Gingras Memorial Fishing Derby. In August we have our firearms and archery hunter safety courses (this year firearms on 8/12 and archery on 8/13). Sometime in July or August will be the duck race (we are working to loop it in with other events in town, also depending on amount of water in the brook at the time).
If anybody has some free time on Mondays throughout the warmer months we are going to be in need of people to volunteer to help mow at the range. The club provides the mower and the gas for it all we need is someone willing to ride around in circles for a little while!
If anyone has any questions about the club please give a call. As my friends and family will happily tell you I like to talk!

Meeting Wednesday March 8th 7 PM The American Legion in Barre
Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
We have some very exciting news about the clubhouse! The roofing has been completed!! That is one more large item to check off the list of things that still needed to be done. Huge thanks to Burrell Roofing for getting that taken care of quickly and efficiently! Keep an eye out for the mail newsletter (I am finally getting around to getting that out! Sorry for the delays) I hear there will be a picture of the building in it for those that haven't had an opportunity to make it up there yet.
Big Game Raffle and Spring Gun Raffle -- If you had a ticket for last years Big Game Raffle you will have first choice on your ticket again this year. The grand prize will be a guided muzzleloader hunt for 2 at Occoneechee Hunting Lodge in Jackson NC. I had the pleasure of going there last year with a previous winner as well as 3 additional members and I can honestly say that it was an amazing time and I am very excitedly looking forward to going back again! Expect to be receiving a call soon about if you want it or not. Also if anyone has an item that they would like to donate as one of the prizes for the raffle give me a call and I would be happy to meet up and get that from you! The dinner will be at the Elks Club in Barre this year on April 29th, which is also when the Spring Gun Raffle will be drawn. The gun for this years raffle is a Christensen Arms Ridgeline bolt action rifle chambered in 7mm-08. This is a very pretty gun and significantly higher price point than any raffle item we have done in the past with a MSRP of $2100! Raffle tickets are $20/ea or 3/$50 and tickets will be available at the meeting as well as coming in the mailed newsletter along with an order form for more. I will also have a stack of them and can meet up with people as needed.
As spring is set to be arriving soon it is time to start thinking about the building and grounds maintenance. We are going to need people to volunteer on Mondays to help with the lawn mowing and general upkeep of the range. I am happy to answer all questions that might arise about those duties so feel free to reach out!
Memberships are available (in person and on the website). Membership books will be distributed shortly to make it easier to get memberships in many places.
Hope to see you at the meeting!

Meeting Wednesday February 8th 7 PM The American Legion in Barre
Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
I am going to start off this newsletter with a quick update from the January meeting. We got some dates set, but not nearly enough. We did not have enough people at the meeting to finish elections. Also we had to push off some of the larger decisions for the raffles until this meeting. That being said the February meeting should be pretty eventful for those that were not able to attend the January meeting!
Now for a little bit of political stuff. There are two main bills being put before the legislature that are of pretty good concern. They are labeled as S.4 and S.11. S.4 defines an "assault weapon" and goes into pretty extensive detail about what makes a weapon an "assault weapon". I recommend everyone take a look at the bills and make their own informed decisions about them and if you feel so moved, reach out to your representatives.
Some of you are probably wondering where the mailed newsletter is. Due to the delays with last months meetings the newsletter has not been completed and mailed yet. As soon as it can be it will be. New memberships are available through the website at this time (membership books have not been distributed yet).
Some range reminders: The range is closed on Mondays - NO EXCEPTIONS. Each membership allows you to bring ONE guest with you. I am getting repeated calls and complaints from the same people bringing groups of people with only one membership. If you want to check out the range and see if it is a good fit for you then one visit should be plenty, after that secure your own membership or shoot somewhere else. Please make at least a slight attempt to pick up after yourself. That includes removing your shot targets from the backer and picking up your shells/brass.
Hope to see more of you at the meeting!

Meeting Wednesday January 18th 7 PM The American Legion in Barre
Hello to all Williamstown Fish and Game Club members!
Happy New Year to everyone! We were all hoping that this would be the first Annual meeting to be held at the clubhouse in the time that I have been involved with the club, however, as is par for the course mother nature has thrown a curve ball and the road to the club and the driveway are more ice than anything else. So we cried uncle and decided for ease and safety of us all to hold it one more time at the American Legion in Barre. For those that are not familiar with the location it is next to Domino's and across from the Lenny's plaza in downtown Barre.
With the mention of hoping to hold the meeting at the clubhouse at night in winter means that the progress on the clubhouse has come far enough to be not only fully enclosed and insulated, but that there is power to the building now!! It has been a very long road to get back to this point and the amount of work put in by the members and the contractors truly needs to be seen to be understood. There simply are not enough words to express the gratitude that I as President of this club have for everyone that has put their blood, sweat and tears into this.
On to the fun stuff for this upcoming meeting. The first thing we are going to try and check off are the elections for the year. This year is a big year for elections because it is the end of term for the President, Vice President and 4 director positions. If anyone has any questions about what is entailed in fulfilling any of those roles please reach out and I will be happy to talk you through what each position is.
The next thing is going to be to look at a calendar and set the dates for all of the events that the club holds. The list includes; the gun raffle, duck race, fishing derby, big game raffle/dinner, hunter safety courses, and anything else that we as a membership decide to do this year. During this discussion we will also discuss the items to be raffled off in the gun raffle as well as the hunt location and dinner location for the big game raffle/dinner. At the bottom of the newsletter is the calendar of events for the club that will be updated each month.
Keep your eyes on your mailboxes for a more in depth newsletter as well as membership renewal forms and raffle ticket order forms.
Thank you everyone!
